Nearing 40 years of age and coming in with two consecutive significant losses, it is no wonder why people are picking Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) to go down in his upcoming showdown with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2. 38 KOs) on May 7th at Las Vegas, USA. A legend in his own right, Mosley has declined in recent years and has not won since his trashing of Antonio Margarito more than two years ago.
The former three-division champion and future Hall-of-Famer Mosley, who garnered world titles at lightweight, welterweight, and light middleweight, will certainly have his moments. And given Pacquiao’s flaws, Mosley will certainly land some of his shots.
However, while Pacquiao’s defense is not as immaculate, nobody ever came close to exploiting those chinks in the Filipino’s fighting approach. And with Mosley’s depreciating skills and talents, it would be an amazing feat if he can even keep up with Pacquiao’s pace.
Age will show up its head and that will be bad for Mosley come fight night.
“I think the first 3 rounds will be the most dangerous for Manny. The longer it goes, Manny seems to get into a rhythm and just seems to get stronger. Mosley is an all time great, though up there is his age. He’s still a force to be dealt with. My prediction? Pacquiao by late stoppage. Around 9 or 10, but Mosley will have his moments.” – Lupe Contreras, veteran ring annoucer
“I like the fight. I would have loved it more if this was two years ago, but I am not one to hate on the fight. Simply to watch the best fighter in the world get in the ring is a treat at this point.
That being said this is fight that depends on how hard SSM trains and is prepared for the fight, One thing will be certain is Brother Naz will have a dam good game plan to try and take Pac man out. It all hinges on Shane, will he be able to execute? If he is able to then we have a great fight.
If the age and also the wear and tear of Shane become a factor, well then its a matter of when Pac pulls the plug on him.
Pac has carried other fighters before but I feel in this case because of the comparisons that will follow on how Floyd handled Mosley, he will likely attempted to put Shane down for good.” – Tony Whitby, Writer for Boxing IQ
“I think it’ll start slow with Mosley trying to bully Pacquiao. Eventually the fight heats up, Manny gets pissed off and World War 3 breaks out! In the end Manny wears Mosley down and goes for the kill and this time he will not disappoint with a KO in 11th.” – Ron Doran, boxing manager
