Former WBO intercontinental super bantamweight champion Ramie Laput (41-4-1 19 KOs) will have another shot at glory as he takes on undefeated interim WBO Oriental featherweight titlist Joel Brunker (18-0, 12 KOs) of Australia. The hard-hitting Australian will be Laput’s most significant fight to date since losing to former world title contender Zsolt Bedak of Hungary nearly two years ago.
Ken Smith, Laput’s manager, told this writer that his ward will slug it out with the Australian champion on August 31st 2011. Peter Maniatis also confirmed to this writer that the fight is signed and sealed and the venue will be at Hobast, Australia.
“This is a good venue for Ramie to finally get his career back on track and win a world title,” Maniatis said. “Brunker has already defeated Filipino fighters and Ramie will have his chance to avenge his countrymen.”
Brunker has nabbed four victories over four Filipino fighters, one by stoppage and the rest by decision. The Laput-Brunker showdown is part of the Daniel Geale-Eromosele Albert IBF middleweight title match undercard.
