Four-time Australia Fight Promoter of the Year Peter Maniatis and two-time world champion Gerry Penalosa gear up for what could be an exciting night of beatdowns and knockdowns.

Maniatis told this writer that he recently signed a co-promotion deal with the Penalosa for an event parading fighters with much pop in their fists. Scheduled on August 6th, 2011 at the Cebu City Coliseum, Cebu City, the event will feature Randy “Razor” Petalcorin (13-1, 12 KOs), undefeated sluggers Dodie Boy Penalosa, Jr., (5-0, 5 KOs), and Marvin Mabait (9-0-2, 8 KOs).

“I am really excited with the card Gerry and I have put up,” Maniatis told this writer. “I am expecting action-packed fights from start to finish.”

Petalcorin, who was earlier scheduled to fight in Australia, had to delay his dreams of fighting abroad because of passport issues. But for Maniatis, who handles Petalcorin’s overseas bouts, he believes that the delay is an opportunity for his ward to hone his skills first before he can finally step up to a bigger stage.

“This is a chance for Randy to fine tune his skills as a fighter,” Maniatis said. “He is fighting Michael Rodriguez for the PABA light flyweight championship. This is a proving ground for him.”

“Rodriguez may have 29 losses but only one managed to knock him out,” Maniatis added.

Super bantamweight prospect Dodie Boy Penalosa Jr.will look to extend his winning streak to six victories. Penalosa, whose boxing pedigree is undeniable, is coming off from a fresh 4th-round stoppage win over Jeffrey Jimenez last June 25th, 2011. There is still no official word as to who is opponent will be.

Bantamweight hopeful Mabait will also try to protect his unblemished record. Coming off from a six-fight winning streak, last five by stoppage, Mabait is certainly a name to look out for. Like Penalosa, Mabait’s opponent is still unknown.

Also to figure on fight night is former WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight champion Jimrex Jaca (33-6-3, 18 KOs) and Eden Sonsona (21-6, 7 KOs). Welterweight Jaca, who once tangled with Mexican ring legend Juan Manuel Marquez, will face off with Filipino journeyman Arnel Tinampay (14-13-1, 5 KOs), while Sonsona will slug it out with Tampus Singwangcha (23-12-2, 17 KOs).

The event is co-promoted by Peter Maniatis Events and GerryPens Promotions. Fight night is on August 6th, 2011 at the Cebu City Coliseum, Cebu City, Philippines.
