Tickets to the first-ever world championship in Bacolod City have been out in the market for less than a week and as of press time, fans are flocking the many outlets to obtain passes to the highly-anticipated event.

ALA Promotions, the organization responsible for Pinoy Pride 9: WBO World Light Flyweight Championship is not at all surprised at this phenomenon. The first Pinoy Pride show, which featured AJ “Bazooka” Banal in 2010, garnered very high ratings in local television, landing among the top ten shows in Mega Manila for that day. The last Pinoy Pride, which features Milan “El Metodico” Melindo, rated 13.8% in Manila and 21% in Mindanao, which was previously unheard of. Pinoy Pride has indeed become a household name in Philippine boxing.

Donnie Nietes will appear for the second time in the boxing mega-series and will be fighting in his hometown once again. This time, however, it will be for the chance to obtain the WBO Light Flyweight title from Ramon “Principe” Garcia.

Nietes was a renowned Minimumweight world champion with a history of title defenses in enemy territory. Now, he is moving up on weight division and hoping to make history by becoming one of the few Filipino boxers who hold more than one world championship belt in different divisions.

Team Nietes mentioned to the press that he is asking for the boxing fans’ support since he is fighting not only for the Philippines, but especially for his home province of Negros Occidental.

They encouraged the fans to wear their purple and black attire on October 8, the fight night date, to show their support for their very own boxer.
