Undefeated American Timothy Bradley expressed confidence about his chances on his upcoming bout against pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao on June 9 in Las Vegas.
Bradley, who holds an undefeated record in 28 fights, underestimated the punching power of Pacquiao, saying that he can handle the punches of Pacquiao, whom he described as fighter who has no one-punch knockout power.
The 28-year-old American cited his bout against 2009 against Kendal Holt, who dropped him to the canvas in the first round of their bout, before bouncing back to score a unanimous decision despite being knocked down once again in the 12th round of the match..
“I don’t think there’s anyone who punches like him,” Bradley said referring to the fighting power of Holt. “He has a one-punch knockout power, and Manny does not have that. I got to take this guy out and I can beat this guy.”
Bradley, who will be getting his biggest paycheck ever, also said that he is not after the money and declared that he is looking to be a superstar in boxing.
And win against Pacquiao, whom he called as the second-best boxer next to Floyd Mayweather, will make him the No.2 boxer in the world.
“I’m going to win. I will put myself to number two by beating this guy,” Bradley said. “Floyd Mayweather has done a lot to the sport. But I want that Pacquiao’s spot. I want his throne. I want to be a superstar in boxing.”
“And in order to be a superstar you need to beat a superstar,” he added.
However, Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach belittles Bradley, saying that the American has no chance of beating the Filipino champion.
According to Roach, Bradley’s weapon is just using his head illegally and he believes that the 28-year-old slugger doesn’t have the speed and power to match up against Pacquiao.
Roach, however, also challenged Pacquiao to score a convincing win to prove that he can still knock his opponents out. The soon-to-be Hall of Famer said that Pacquiao must win or he will advise him to retire.
